Influencer & Body Positive Advocate - Meet Lexi!

It’s Wednesday again and you know what time is! It’s #WCW. Yes, that’s Woman Crush Wednesday! You can expect to have some real, honest I See You Moments!

Today’s I See You® blog features the truth speaking, Lexi Nimmo: Curve Model, Actress & Body Positivity Advocate.

Lexi has made a name for herself in a very short period of time as someone who is inspiring women to love and celebrate their bodies, while opening real, honest discussions about mental health.

She has been featured in FabUplus magazine, as both a contributor and model, countless marketing campaigns and music videos.

WOW! WE SEE YOU girl!

In a desire to lift other women up and celebrate the beauty of ALL women she even created the hashtag following, #standuptobeautystandards that is quickly gaining momentum in just a few months.

Something as simple as a hashtag is empowering other women to celebrate their beauty and defy fashion industry standards.

As Lexi has gained popularity, she’s become a bonified influencer. Like all influencers, she uses social media as her platform to speak her truth while creating a community.

We all know that by using platforms like Instagram, we are all basically in a tenant-landlord type situation.

In an unexpected twist, on April 14th, 2019, just 90 people away from reaching 20,000 followers, her Instagram account was deleted.

She was not put on warning, not given an eviction notice with a set date, simply deleted.

GONE! Poof.

Lexi has built an active following that brands are taking notice of and thus, have resulted in lucrative partnerships.

However, how does she promote herself or her partnerships if Lexi’s page is deleted?

Lexi is in the middle of rebuilding her brand on a new page, @lexi_nimmo, but she’s started over at square one.

Though we had planned to feature this beauty in the summer, in light of the events of the last 24-hours, we think Lexi deserves all of our support and encouragement.

Enjoy learning a bit more about Lexi and what this Nashville native is creating.

What or who inspired you to become a model and advocate? Tell us about you and your brand.

I'm somewhat of a jack-of-all-trades! I'm an actress (stage and film), curve model (runway and print), blogger 7 (for my personal blog "I Blog Now" and for FabUPlus Magazine, and social media influencer! I do these creative jobs without a permanent "day job" so I'm a full-time freelancer. I've been acting since I was a child, but only began modeling in 2017. Once I began posting my modeling pictures on Instagram I began gaining followers and receiving messages from women and young girls saying that I inspired them! I realized that its extremely important for all women to feel represented in the media and that I could help other women feel as confident as I do by sharing my work and experience online! Over the past 6 months of making Instagram part of my job I've grown a beautiful following of 19.9K and created the hashtag #standuptobeautystandards!

Who saw you and supported your dreams?

It might sounds corny but I genuinely feel seen by my Instagram followers! I feel like I owe them a big thank you for helping spread my message and helping me succeed! Without the support from them, I wouldn't be able to reach those in need of body positivity!

What song heals your soul?

Okay this might be odd but Demi Lovato's song "Sorry Not Sorry" heals my soul! I went through a nasty divorce just as that song was released and it helped me pump myself up and reminded me how awesome I am! I'm also majorly inspired by Demi!

What does it mean to YOU to feel seen?

I feel seen when people remember my work. When they say, "oh I saw your ad the other day!" or "I read your poem" or "Weren't you in that movie? It was hilarious!" As an artist and a performer it’s an incredibly validating feeling to be remembered for your art. I feel a great sense of accomplishment when something I created leaves an impact on another person.

What’s your go-to, self-care tip?

My go-to self-care tip would be to take a shower. It sounds small and silly but for someone like me who struggles with mental illness, sometimes showering is a big deal. When I'm in a depressive state I might not shower for several days, but once I do it feels so cleansing in more than just the literal sense. So, when I'm feeling stressed or defeated on a regular day I take a long hot shower and for me, it has the same cleansing effect.

Growing up, did you play an instrument and/or did you participate in any clubs? How do you think this activity help shape you as a person?

In elementary school I was a girl scout! While other troops used their cookie money for kayaking trips, we donated ours to charity! The mother of one of the girls in my troop was diagnosed with cancer. In one of our troop meetings they broke the news to us gently and gave us all child-friendly coloring sheets with information that explained cancer in a way we could understand. We donated our cookie money to the Gilda's Club that year. I feel that my experience in Girl Scouts taught me the importance of philanthropy and supporting your fellow woman.

What advice would you give your younger self?

If I could give advice to my younger self it would be to stop worrying about what other people think of your appearance! First of all, we are all beautiful! But most importantly I've come to realize, being beautiful (externally) doesn't matter at all. At the end of your life you won't be on your death bed thinking "Thank God I was so beautiful!" Loving people, being true to yourself, and chasing your dreams is what really matters in life and you don't have to be beautiful for any of that!

What’s one piece of advice you’d give someone thinking about starting their own blog or going after their dreams?

Do it now. Right freakin now! Don't wait to start until you have the perfect equipment, more money, more time. It will never be the perfect time and the more excuses you make the more you sabotage your dreams! Start right now, messy and busy and broke and do the best with what you have. Don't worry, it'll get better! But you have to start!

Lexi, WE SEE YOU!! We honor your ability to speak your truth authentically. We appreciate how you celebrate ALL women and choose positivity.

We celebrate YOU for who you are, what you are creating and know that you continue to rise-up and inspire women around the world.

Lexi is a fighter. She’s a motivator, a truth speaker. Lexi is a kind human being paving her own trail. We hope you join us in celebrating this amazing young woman!
